The upstairs gym is genuinely good – clean, well maintained, and the gym-floor staff are lovely and always helpful. Unfortunately, downstairs is a completely different story. The spa, swimming pool, toilets and changing rooms are honestly appalling. There are regularly balls of hair, chewing gum and general filth around the changing/pool area, and there’s constantly dirty crap floating around in the swimming pool water. The toilets are disgusting and the changing rooms often look like they’ve barely been cleaned. I’ve even been in steam rooms that smell of urine on more than a couple occasions. For a paid leisure facility, it’s completely unacceptable. Maintenance is just as bad. Something is ALWAYS broken. One of the four spa rooms regularly isn’t working, the showers constantly have problems and the hot water seems to never work properly. Even basic little faults are left for months rather than simply being fixed. Things occasionally breaking is normal – leaving the same problems unfixed months after months is just poor management and laziness. The spa isn’t particularly relaxing either. Everyone, including people with additional needs, should obviously be welcome, but excessive shouting, splashing and disruption regularly goes unmanaged. A spa is supposed to provide a relaxing environment, and management needs to find a fair balance for everyone using it. When I had belongings stolen, the response was equally poor. I received virtually no meaningful help and was left with the impression that they simply didn’t care. Throw in the constant parking problems and you start seeing the same theme everywhere: problems happen, customers complain, and seemingly nothing gets done. It’s a shame because the gym staff upstairs are brilliant. But whoever is responsible for managing the pool, spa, changing rooms and general facilities seriously needs to raise their standards. The current level of cleanliness and maintenance isn’t just disappointing – it’s embarrassingly poor and completely unacceptable for paying customers.
